Special Symposium on Climate Change and Floodplain Management!
Part of the FMA Annual Conference, this unprecedented symposium is designed to provide professionals with an insightful, state-of-the-art look into the status of climate change research and investigations in California, with a focus on regulatory and legal implications to floodplain management.
The Symposium will include up-to-date discussions on the salient studies, investigations, and research initiatives including the challenges associated with hydrologic modeling, the uncertainties of future source area hydrologic response, and the physical/infrastructure, natural resource, economic, and socio-cultural risks to floodplain managers and system-wide flood control operators. Technical discussions will be followed by policy deliberations, addressing key policy and institutional issues, integration into larger State-wide water resource initiatives (e.g., Delta Vision, Bay-Delta Conservation Plan, IRWMPs, and new off-stream storage projects), and pending new regulatory guidance such as the State CEQA Guidelines and the State General Plan Guidelines. An open forum with scientists, regulators and policy experts will provide invaluable opportunities for dialogue on challenges, opportunities and recommendations.
