Charlene Sez: I am NOT in favor of doublespeak, er, lying.
This PR comes to me just as I begin to look at the SD Republican Party honchos. I never pay much attention to them. Because I don't know any of the candidates for the "Central Committee" I don't vote for any of them.
Well, one of these guys, Jim Kelly, Trustee for Grossmont Union High School District, is one of them. He's their recruiter for Republican candidates. He digs these guys up and makes sure that they get funds from the "Central Committee."
Two surprises:
(1) That Kelly who has been hanging out with this crowd for years got the exact same amount of financial support ($20,144.89), as a newby, Bob Shield. Both candidates for the Grossmont Union High School District in 2006.
So is this the Repubs buying Kelly a compainon vote on the GUHSD? That is how Shield has performed since elected. Not independently at all.
Why would they be so generous to a newcomer? Shield only raised about $25,000 for his campaign, so this is a BIG chunk of money.
If you are so inclined, the account for the Republican Central Com of San Diego is on the Sec. of State website: http://www.sos.ca.gov Click on "campaign." Find this account in .pdf. Right click on the account and select "search." Put in "Kelly" or "Shield" and all the references to them in the account will come up in a bunch. It is curious as to why each donation in the series in the same for both. Even though the amounts are identical for each, the timing is different. Shield gets a lot of money near the end of the campaign. Guess they were scared that Sobel might win. Too bad he didn't.
(2) The home page for the Repub Central Committee announces that Matt Schumsky, employee of Kelly's, has been appointed by the Prez to the Board, without any public vote. Why would that be?
When Schumsky ran for the Alpine Planning Group, I found that he had several tax liens and some abstract of judgments filed against him. There were no "releasees" filed indicating that he had paid those obligations.
He angrily confronted me about circulating that information, some of which had his SS# on them. He said that he did not know that one of the judgments existed until I mentioned it, and his attorney was clearing that up.
I guess that nothing much came of that as the list of liens and judgments is still there without accompanying "releases.".
Those judgments and tax liens are still on the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk's site: http://www.sdarcc.com
This is not the first prominent East County Republican that I have found to have run afoul of the law which would include "lying" to someone(s).
So waht do we have here? Pots calling kettles black? Birds of a feather? Thick as theives? Takes one to know one?
Waaahtever.
